BROOKLYN CREATIVE ARTS LAB WILL BE ON HIATUS DURING SUMMER 2017. A lot has been learned in the first three years of this summer camp’s operation, and in order to make the program as vital as it can be, the organizations behind it are taking a year off and evaluate their work together. Please check back for updated information.

Brooklyn Creative Arts Lab (BCAL) Summer Camp is presented by BRIC, Mark Morris Dance Group and Irondale Ensemble Project. BCAL offers a unique summer camp experience for young creative minds (ages 10-14) in the heart of Brooklyn Cultural District. Explore and learn from professional teaching artists working in the fields of Dance, Theater, Visual Art, and Film/Media. Be inspired, collaborate, and create with other young artists, and produce and perform in a culminating stage spectacle pushing the boundaries of art making.

Program Partners

BRIC has been the driving cultural force behind a number of Brooklyn’s most renowned and beloved arts and media programs. All of BRIC’s programs are anchored by the organization’s commitment to artistic excellence, programmatic breadth, diverse cultural representation, and genuine accessibility. For more than 25 years, BRIC has engaged youth in the experience of creating. Through rich youth education programs, BRIC directly engages young people in contemporary art, performing arts, and media. School residencies, internship programs, and after-school programs are just some of the tools BRIC uses to allow young people to experience the creative process firsthand and explore their artistic spirit. Irondale Ensemble Project is a theater company founded and run by artists with a 30-year history of public engagement. Based at our new home, Irondale Center in Fort Greene, Brooklyn the Irondale Ensemble is one of the premier and longest established experimental ensemble companies in the United States. Our roots lie in improvisation, traditional Stanislavski techniques, extensive movement work, and collaborative writing techniques. We passionately believe that theater is a democratic art form with the potential to achieve real social change and over the years, tens of thousands of young people have been introduced to this powerful medium through our in school, on-site, and community based education programs.
